Janet Loos

Janet Grimson Loos, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, under hospice care at Maple Glen Memory Care in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

She was born on July 27, 1940, in Bismarck to parents Lynn and Mary Ann Grimson.

In 1946, shortly after her father completed his service in WW2, the Grimson family moved to Grafton. Janet attended public schools in Grafton for all grades, graduating as salutatorian of her high school class of 1958. Her college studies were at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where in 1962 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in accounting. In 1964, she passed tests to become a certified public accountant, being the third woman to do so in the state of North Dakota.

In 1961 Janet was joined in marriage to her high school sweetheart, James Loos. After both graduated from the University of North Dakota, the couple lived in Illinois for six years where their two children, Rebecca and Michael, were born. They then moved several times, to California for four years, to North Carolina for five years, to Illinois for 10 years, to New Jersey for three years, then back to Lisle, Illinois, where they have since lived. In all these places, Janet worked as a CPA, specializing in accounting for small businesses, school districts and tax work. She worked full time until 2007, then part time through 2011. Despite her busy career, Janet was a devoted mother, an able household manager and a wonderful life companion to her husband.

Janet enjoyed playing bridge, attending classical music concerts, staying connected to lifelong friends through visits, reunions and travel. She often enjoyed going for a neighborhood walk, or hike at the nearby Morton Arboretum. She also followed the Chicago area sports teams, especially the Cubs and Blackhawks. She enjoyed all aspects of family life, and was blessed with four grandchildren, to whom she devoted much time and energy as they grew up.

Janet is survived by her husband of 61 years, James; daughter, Rebecca Palacios, Saint Charles, Illinois; son, Michael Loos, Chicago, Illinois; sister, Judy Smith, Plant City, Florida; niece, Janet Julian, Stratford, Ontario, Canada; and four grandchildren: Andrew Palacios, Michael Palacios, Sarah Loos and Natalie Loos.

A family-only memorial will be held at the Loos home in Lisle. Burial later will also be a private service. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, the family would appreciate that any memorial in Janet’s name be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Red Cross or to support two special places in Grafton that Janet loved, Elmwood

House and Heritage

Village.
