Darwin Deaver

Darwin Deaver, 57, Grafton, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, in a Grand Forks hospital with family at his side.

Darwin Scott Deaver, the son of Allie and Frances ( VanBuskirk) Deaver, was born Nov. 14, 1961, in Wolf Point, Montana. Darwin was born with severe mental and physical disabilities, which in no way impaired the positive impact he had upon those who knew him.

Darwin lived with his family until the age of 7, when, in an effort to improve the quality of his life, he became a permanent resident of the State Developmental Center in Grafton. With the support of the staff and facilities at the center, he enjoyed a relatively robust health, and his benevolent, insatiably curious personality blossomed.

Darwin worked for several years in the center’s laundry services. In later years he worked as a courier, transporting materials throughout the center’s campus. He did considerable volunteer work, particularly for local food and clothing drives. He took part in numerous recreational activities at the center. He relished traveling, and made many trips within the Great Plains region. He loved outdoor activities on warm sunny days, and felt a special connection to those involving the vitality and innocence of children.

Darwin’s uniquely kind and gentle disposition will be missed by his loving family: father, Allie Deaver, Berthold; mother, Frances Deaver, Minot; sister, Lynette Deaver, Minot; brother, Shawn Deaver, Minot, brother, Lance (Sharon) Deaver, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and their children, Corbin and Bailey Deaver.

Memorial ser vice: Wednesday, Aug, 28, at 1:45 p.m. at Life Skills & Transition Center – Chapel, Grafton.
